Who We Are

The Rhode Island Center for Agricultural Promotion and Education (RICAPE). RICAPE is an independent non-profit 501(c) (3) organization that provides resources and services to farmers, gardeners, agricultural professionals, educators, chefs and business and community leaders dedicated to sustaining agriculture and education about it.

Our Mission

The Center's mission is to keep viable Rhode Island's farm communities, strengthen pride of place and enhance quality of life. We do so by reinforcing the connections between people and agriculture through programs and activities that nurture our young, build awareness, inspire engagement, cultivate knowledge, values and skills and promote jobs, careers and community service.

    RICAPE builds partnerships and programs that encourage lifelong learning and bring children in direct contact with farms, farmers and the agricultural community including:

  • The Children's Garden Network Campaign 2010 - A Garden at Every School
    Campaign to assist communities to grwo garden education programs at every school and youth organization in Rhode Island by the year 2010.

  • Farm Quests

  • Year long learning adventures for children in grades 4-8 that foster community connections through interactions with local farms and farmers.

    For Teachers and Education Professionals
    RICAPE conducts in-service workshops to assist in expanding education about agriculture in the classroom and in the community

    For Policy Makers and the General Public
    RICAPE promotes shared learning through education forums and conferences, expanded press coverage, broadcast media programming and a variety of community activities and events
